Power Paws Reinforced Foot Dog Socks

The Woodrow Wear Power Paws Advanced Dog Socks have been a very popular item as they help dogs to gain traction on slippery floors, and also help to protect your dog from licking its paws when they need time to heal.

Now Woodrow Wear has come out with the new Power Paws Reinforced Foot Dog Socks, which are reinforced and stronger at the paw area.  They are more suitable for outdoor use compared to the Power Paws Advanced dog socks.

The new Power Paws Reinforced Foot Dog Socks are available in regular style and Greyhound style (for hare-footed dogs)

The Reinforced Foot style takes the extra stitching reinforcement used in the toe area of Power Paws Advanced product and extends it through the entire foot area. The result is a more durable entire foot area, and something that is beneficial for the most active dogs and even those with neurological issues that may drag a foot, knuckle under, etc. Typical uses are camping, hiking, jogging, or even in sand or on a pool deck where the surfaces can be quite abrasive.

As with the Power Paws Advanced dog socks, the Reinforced Foot style is also available for dogs with a hare-shaped paw; i.e., Greyhounds, etc.  Hare-footed dogs have two center digits that are longer than the inside and outside toes and a lack of arching in the toes resulting in the feet appearing longer.  Some dogs are hare-footed in their front paws but their back paws are regular-shaped, so be sure to select the correct socks for your dog.  The dog socks are sold in pairs (2 socks per package) in case your dog has different size requirements from front to back.

The four (4) styles of Power Paws dog socks are:

Dog Shoes, Boots, Socks and Paw Protection

Standard

There are often times that our dogs need protection for their paws. It could be protection from snow and salt, protection from hot sidewalks or protection for medical purposes. Sidewalks and roads are coated with salt during the winter, and can be equally as abrasive during the hot summer months. A good pair of dog boots is not just for winter weather, they are also great protection for hot pavement, walking on gravel roads or rocky hikes. Without proper protection, your dog may injure or burn its paws. Dogs also may cut their pads and need protection during the healing process, or you may want to prevent them from licking their paws while suffering from allergies.

There are a lot of brands and styles on the market, so it is important to select the best shoe or boot for your dog depending on its needs.

For smaller dogs who don’t tolerate cold weather very well, we like the Hugs Pugz Boots for Dogs. With the faux sheepskin inside, these resemble the popular Uggs Boots. The sole is fairly rigid, and dogs seem to enjoy wearing them after an initial adjustment period. These are very popular, and come in four sizes: XS, Small, Medium and Large:

Healers Urban Walkers — Boots for Dogs

Healers Urban Walkers were created to protect your pet from everyday paw injuries. An ounce of prevention can go a long way to save your pet from injury. They are great for hardwood floors, boating, hunting, and outdoor terrains. A Healthy Paw Pad is essential to the well being of your dog. They serve as a shock absorber, provide surface traction and insulate the dog from extreme hot and cold temperatures. Even though the paw pads of a dog are tough, they can still be injured.

Healer Urban Walkers come in 7 sizes from XS to XL, so there is a size for your dog whether it is a Maltese or a Mastiff.  For the large and giant breeds, these may be your only option for protection.  These are not quite as cute and stylish as the Hugs Pugz Boots, but they are very functional for use in all seasons.

Dog Socks

Power Paws Advanced Non-Slip Dog Socks

Woodrow Wear has designed a line of dog socks that help keep dogs from slipping on shiny floors. Power Paws are available in 8 “regular” sizes (XXS to 3XL) and fit dogs from 6 pounds all the way up to 230 – 250 pounds. There are a number of testimonials on YouTube where the Power Paws dog socks have helped dogs negotiate slippery floors and give them confidence on shiny surfaces.

Medical Boots and Wraps for Dogs

Unfortunately, sometimes our dogs injure their paws or have allergies that cause them to lick their paws. A dog can easily cut his pad on glass or a sharp object when out walking. You can try to wrap your dog’s paws in vet wrap or gauze, but it is time-consuming to change the bandages and most dogs are able to get out of the bandages very quickly.

Healers Medical Dog Boots

Healers Pet Medical Dog Boots are designed as a medical aid for your pets allergy and injured stricken paws. It enables an owner to easily put the dog bootie on and off the sore or injured paw. The Healers custom non-adherent, triple-layer gauze inserts fits the interior of the dog bootie and acts as a bandage to absorb moisture.

Healers Medical Wraps for Dogs

Healers Medical Wraps for Dogs are mostly for wrapping a leg injury on your dog, rather than the paw. They are easy to use, and are designed to stay put on your dog’s injured leg. They can be used in conjunction with the Healers Medical Dog Boots.

Woodrow Wear Power Paws Non-Slip Socks for Dogs

Standard

A friend of mine used a pair of Drymax Cold Weather Socks for her female Boerboel when she had an allergies.  The constant paw-licking caused a host of other problems, since bacteria thrive in dark, damp places (like between the toes of your dog).  Drymax Socks are form-fitting and they stayed up and did the trick, but now I’m happy to see that a company called Woodrow Wear has brought out a new line of socks for dogs called Power Paws.

It’s always a good idea to try to get to the source of your dog’s paw licking, since often allergies are food-related.  There are a lot of articles of selection of dog food, homemade and raw diets, so I won’t get into that now.  Let’s stick with the topic of socks for dogs.

Power Paws Dog Socks - Help with Slippery Floors and Stairs

Power Paws Dog Socks help your dog more easily navigate slippery floors and stairs.

Dog socks help prevent paw-licking, but this is only one of the uses of dog socks.  The other uses are for senior or geriatric dogs that have trouble climbing stairs or getting their footing on shiny surfaces or hardwood floors.  Non-slip dog socks, like Power Paws from Woodrow Wear, help your dog with traction on slippery floors, and they also come in use for protection of paw wounds.

About two years ago my female Boerboel ripped one of her toenails half off and it had to be removed.  She wore a bandage on her foot for about a week, but I could not remove it as I feared I would not be able to re-wrap it as nicely as the vet.  It also did not allow for air to get to the wound, which is needed for proper healing.  Her toenail healed fine and she is back in good shape, but it would have been nice to have a non-slip dog sock so that she could navigate outdoors more easily and keep the bandage clean.

Power Paws Non-Slip Dog Socks come in 8 sizes, from XXL to 3XL and there are also 4 sizes (Greyhound style) for dogs whose middle two digits are longer than the outer digits (Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Poodles, etc.).  There is a cute selection of colors and styles.

Power Paws Advanced with Reinforced Toe are currently available for $24.99 for a 4-pack pair at ShopForPuppy.com.

Size Guide for Woodrow Wear Power Paws Socks for Dogs

They are available in two foot styles: Regular (for most dogs) and Greyhound Edition (for “hare-footed” dogs like Italian Greyhounds, Poodles, Whippets, Australian Shepherds). Any dog CAN have a hare-foot, even Shepherds, Collies, and occasionally a Pug.

To determine which is best, take a look at the pads on your dog’s paws.

Choose Power Paws Regular if:

  • Your dog’s paw pad is nearly square.
  • Its length and width are approximately equal.

Choose Greyhound Style if:

  • Your dog’s paw pad is significantly longer than its width (regardless of breed)
  • Any breed can have hare-feet. Some dogs even have “regular” front feet and “hare-feet” in the back!
